ISKCON Food for Life, a non-profit organisation, is one of the world’s largest vegetarian food distribution program, serving thousands of meals daily and active in more than 65 countries – including Mauritius. The food is prepared by the devotees and then offered to Lord Krishna and those who consume it, honor it as prasada.

Food For Life Mauritius usually distributes prasada to pilgrims in Maha Shivaratri festival, Ganga Snan festival, Père Laval Pilgrimage and to people attending Kirtan beach programs, amongst others.

Prasada distribution in ISKCON

Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, taught that giving prasada to others is an important part of the Krishna conscious way of life. He wanted free prasada to be part of every Hare Krishna function such as Ratha Yatra – Festival of Chariots, public congregational chanting programs (Harinama Sankirtan), Sunday love feast programs at ISKCON centres around the world.

As far back as 1970 in a Ratha-yātrā program in San Francisco, Srila Prabhupada had looked on as his disciples had distributed a free vegetarian prasādam feast to thousands.

Srila Prabhupada instructed devotees to distribute prasadam wherever possible.
