2. What can I bring for the Deities?
You can bring offerings such as vegetables, grains, fruits, Tulasi leaves, flowers for the Deities, Sri Sri Krishna Balaram.
3. What can I buy from the Temple gift shop?
You can buy japa mala or chanting beads; you can also get most of Srila Prabhupada’s books. Please visit our gift shop for many more items such as Tulasi neckbeads, paraphernalia, kurtas and dhotis.
4. What is Ekadasi?
Srila Prabhupada explained that Ekadasi meant ‘the eleventh’ and it refers to the eleventh day of both the waxing and the waning moon. Hence, Ekadasi falls twice a month.
Devotees observe Ekadasi to awaken their love for Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. In his letter to one of his disciples, Srila Prabhupada said that real Ekadasi means to chant and to fast. Thus, on Ekadasi day, devotees eat simple meals and increase their chanting.
“With great care I observe holy days like Ekādaśī and Janmāṣṭamī, for they are the mother of devotion. And with the greatest reverence and love, I choose as my dwelling place the transcendental abode of Śrī Kṛṣṇa” – Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura (Suddha-bhaktata, Text Two, Saranagati).
5. What foods do devotees avoid eating on Ekadasi?
Upon Lord Caitanya’s request, his mother, Śacī devi, abstained from eating grains on Ekadasi.
Food grains such as beans, pulse, wheat, barley, mustard oil and sesame oil are avoided.
